Welcome to the Distillery in Roskilde, a unique section of youth housing where you can enjoy modern facilities in historical surroundings. Here you get your own apartment with both kitchen, bathroom, and toilet, and there is no shared kitchen to consider. The waiting time to get an apartment here is typically up to six months, so it pays to be patient.
It is a requirement that smoking is not allowed on the premises, not even in the private rooms. The Distillery is centrally located in Roskilde, close to the pedestrian street, where you will find a wide range of shops and cafes that lead you up to the impressive Cathedral and further to the station.
The dormitory, located at Møllehusene 16, was built in 1997 and consists of 81 one-room apartments and 6 two-room apartments. All apartments are equipped with their own kitchen, bathroom, and toilet. The one-room apartments are designed for one person, while the two-room apartments can accommodate two people. However, it is important to note that children are not allowed to live in the apartments, not even in the two-room apartments.
For animal lovers, there is the possibility of keeping one indoor cat per rental unit. However, the cat must remain within the rental unit and must not cause complaints from other residents. If this rule is violated, the permission to keep a cat may be revoked.
The Distillery is within walking distance to Roskilde station and is close to many of the city's educational institutions. There is also good bus connectivity to Roskilde University and the station right outside the door. From the dormitory, it is just a few minutes' bike ride to both Roskilde Business School, the Butcher School, and Roskilde Technical School.
The name 'Distillery' comes from the building's past as a distillery from the 1780s. The building, which now houses the youth apartments, was constructed in 1941 and has served as housing since 1997. Here you will find modern facilities such as your own telephone exchange, shared internet connection, laundry, cable TV, and a party hall. Only young people in education can get an apartment here.
The rent includes water, while heating is charged in advance, and electricity is paid directly to the supplier. Internet and cable TV are paid together with the rent. It is possible to apply for housing benefit if you meet the requirements.
It is important to be registered with the Housing Association Zealand with your CPR number if you are assigned an apartment. Registration is free, and if two of you share the apartment, both must be registered. This ensures that everything is in order when you move in.
